Prof. Bregman chairs the Science Team from the University of Michigan. He has spent his entire career studying the gaseous content and properties of the Milky Way, other galaxies, galaxy groups and clusters, and the intergalactic medium. His work has been both theoretical and observational, employing X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, and radio telescopes, and leading to over 100 publications. He has been involved in the science planning for several missions in the past two decades that have the capabilities of studying gaseous properties including as the U.S. Science Chair for the International X-Ray Observatory and participating in the development of the Athena proposal and related white papers. He received a B.S. (physics) from State University of New York, Stony Brook, and Ph.D. (astonomy/astrophysics) from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
