Dr. Robert Petre

Dr. Petre is the Chief of the X-ray Astrophysics Laboratory and NASA-GSFC. He is also the NASA Athena Study Scientist, where he leads NASA studies of potential contributions to Athena and monitors ESA activities and advises NASA HQ regarding Athena activities and issues. Prior to this, he was the Hitomi Project Scientist, where he was responsible for the development of the US Hitomi Data Center and led development of the in-flight calibration plan. He also was the Suzaku Project Scientist, where he was responsible for all aspects of NASA participation. He received a B. A. (physics) from the University of Chicago, and Ph.D. (physics) from MIT.
