Mr. Steve Jara
Arcus Chief Safety & Mission Assurance Officer

Mr. Jara is a Senior Quality Assurance Specialist at NASA-Ames. In addition to his work on Arcus, he is the Payloads Chief System Safety & Mission Assurance Officer for the International Space Station, where he manages and mentors Mission Assurance Managers supporting ISS Payloads and evaluates, develops, and critiques documentation and processes for Safety & Mission Assurance controls. He also evaluates safety documentation for accuracy and compliance. Prior to this, he was the System Safety & Mission Assurance Transition for the GOES mission, where he managed support for GOES manufacturing activities, supported Failure Review and Material Review Boards, and tracked risk assessments for project impacts. He also was the Chief System Safety & Mission Assurance Officer for LADEE, for which he developed documentation and integrated Safety & Mission Assurance processes, and managed staffing to cover daily operations and vendor hardware oversight. He was also responsible for Safety & Mission Assurance activities during prelaunch operations, vehicle build up, and satellite integration. He also supported the Kepler mission as the Mission Operations Assurance Manger, for which he assessed impacts and resolutions of anomalies to science operations.
